We are a nonprofit that works with young adults ages 18-24 who have aged out of the foster care system.  Many of these youth feel lost and alone.  They are now on their own and have no place to live.  They need our support to help them find their way to becoming emotionally stable and financially independent.

UP Mentoring began as a program with Voices for Children in the Brazos Valley, and over time has transitioned into its own program.   A dedicated group of volunteers saw the need for UP in our region and worked tirelessly to secure funding to ensure the program's success.  In 2018 UP Mentoring obtained it’s 501(c)(3) status and in 2019 hired a program coordinator.

UP is the only local program that -

  • serves youth with both current or former foster care experience

  • specifically works with 18 to 24-year-olds

  • applies trauma-informed, one-to-one mentoring

  • focuses on developmental relationships

  • involves youth consent and training to join the program

  • pairs mentoring with independent living skills education

  • provides positive recreational outlets, intended to expand worldviews

  • organizes Group MeetUPs to encourage healthy peer relationships

  • offers additional resources, specific to an individual’s needs
